Finished the digital dic install and all appears to work great. This writeup made things go so easily. I spliced each wire as I cut it from the analog dic connector and had no crossed wires. One at a time is the way to do it. Thanks to the OP for taking the time to put this writeup together!

GPSE, I went by location on the connector. The colors weren't an exact match but were very close. I found that everything on the wire list was correct, at least in my 2000 GT. Everything is working great. I did have 2 wires from the original connector that weren't used but I put shrink tube over the unconnected ends and wrapped them into the harness. I'm debating whether to go for the HUD now!

hey, im just new to this site, had my grand prix for near 2 months now, always wanted one and finally got one, its a 98 SE, i went to the junkyard and got a HUD from a 98 GTP, i got the switch, the display unit, and the trim. i had alll the plugs in my car already, plugged in the switch, plugged in the unit, and at first i culd see a faintttt 0 in the unit, but wouldnt project anything. at night, hooked it up again, and nothing at all!! but i noticed the switch dont light up? looking at videos on youtube the switch lights up. so im guessing im getting no power or something? i looked at the fuses in the glove box and under the hood and theres nothing for the hud and at that nothings blown. so does anyone know why its not working. i have not cut my dash or fullyyy installed it but just seeing nothing come out of the unit or the switch, somethings wrong and i shouldnt cut my dash?? can someone please help me out

alright, so i got the heads up display, the trim, and switch, and my car luckily had all the wiring to swap to the digital info center, and the heads up display, so its all plug and play. now today, i started cutting to get the heads up display in. how much do i have to cut, i was cutting, and fitting, and cutting and fitting for near an hour and its still not done. does someone have some pics of what all needs to be cut? i cant figure it out, it was very frusterating, and is a p.i.t.a. i had to re sotter the photo cell, then it worked great! the info centers done, just waiting on cutting the whole for the hud. the main cut is done. its other stuff. i nicked my widshield 2 times and i quit. looking for some detailed pics? cant find none? thanks

You can find this over on club gp.
Cutting the dash will be easiest if you have a dremel tool. Watch your window when your cutting, I nicked mine and there's an inch long etch mark right in my field of view . You'll have to get the appropriately coloured dash piece from someone, remove the front piece by carefully prying up all along and pulling up and out. You'll lose some clips...hopefully your HUD piece has them all still. Lay the HUD dash piece over where it clips into the dash and draw a close outline around the piece in fromt of the driver with white chalk. Take the dash peice out and draw another line about an inch inside of this line. You can now do anything you want to the dash inside the second line because you know it'll be covered by the dash piece. Cut out the dash roughly in the shape of the pics below, keep a rag or shopvac nearby, it's messy business. You'll have to punch holes and cut some of the dash pad out from around the three areas where the clips closest to you pop into. Be careful here as well as cutting out space for the harness since these are the two areas that come closest to the edge of the dash piece. You don't have to cut the trim right along the bottom of the windshield but there will be a clip that the part you're cutting out is attached to that will be a pita to get out. Clip the HUD in (don't worry about putting the front screws in, they're not needed), clip the switch in, turn your car on, and test it all out (speedo, dim, up/down, turn signals, radio, CD, high beams) to make sure everything's good before you clip the dash piece on.

Here's a little pic of some images I pulled out of a search:
1, 2: Factory plug locations (approximate)
3: 3 clip holes for the HUD dome clips
    4: outer line
    5: inner line
6: factory hole (pic is stretched vertically)
    7: HUD in cut hole
    8: Done

i needed pix though that i can enlarge, those pics show the befores and afters really, im looking formaybe someone that has done the swap to take a pic and maybe show where they cut, and how deep you need the opening to make it fit. a gp buddy of mine saw it, and he couldnt really see what the problem was. my trim is like an inch too high, and the aligment is off for the numbers. its crazy
    thanks

well thanks for the replies but i got it in. i did not see that there are 2 holes to mount the unit, and one of the visiable holes are not to mount, but to eliminate. you need to cut along the windshield. its very scary and you need to be patient and relaxed to do this. i recromend taking a break from the main cut to the final cut. just so you do not get ahead of yourself and nick the glass. once you cut out the hole to the right you will see a new hole. cut from the left hole that is visable before you start, the the hidden hole to the right. if the 2 metal clips dont line up that are right behind the speedo, then its not right.
key trick. make sure your unit is fully functioning before you cut.

question. why does my high beam light on the h.u.d. flicker when the turn signals are off? when i hit the turn signals it stops. i dont ever use the high beams due to my single beam h.i.d.s (hey the price was right )
    any imput?

So I did the wiring for the hud and dic. Not all of the locations for the splicing matched but I sliced into the wires that were the same color in the connector and so far everything works except the power wires that I hooked up to the heater controls. The dic only turns on when the blower is on high. Which my resister for the motor was bad anyways so I'm replacing it tomorrow. Wil this fix this problem? After I fix this issue I'll be cutting the dash to install the hud which I already wired. Any help would be great. Thanks

Yes the old wires you will need to match to the new connector but you will need to splice into some other wires also to get all the functions of the dic and or hud.

So i fixed my blower motor resistor. My blower works on all speeds now but still have to have switch on high to get the digital screen to light up and it does not save the info such as ave mpg or oil life. so im going to try some other wires for it. not sure but would like some other opinions. thanks

Soundslike you are not slpiced into the correct wires to power your HUD. I have had no issues with mine following the wiring chart.

Yes I was I figured it out after going thru the heater control harness I was in the wrong harness for it. I was using the section that controls the blower so after switching to the the smaller wiring harness it al works great. And I was only having issues with the power suply for the dic.

The light blue wire (B7) that is for ENG/MET is supposed to go to the HUD.
If you can’t splice/tap into B7 (no HUD) does the DIC default to ENG or Metric??
