Adding HUD and a DIC to your 97-03 GP

I did a quick search on the net and cant find any.... I'm on an army computer so ebay is blocked. Is there another site that has oem or aftermarket HUD/DIC for sale?

What exactly does the digital dic show? I want to do this, and I'm just wondering what all it will show. I thought they had like a boost gauge or something, just wondering.

And I'm confused as to how I know whether or not I can just plug a digital dic in or if I'm going to have to splice wires. I looked at it and I didn't see any other plugs under the dash and all the wires going into my analog dic were just connected by a white thing that didn't look like it was supposed to come off. If someone could please help I'd appreciate it.

Anybody know where the power comes from for the HUD? Wired everything up except for the B4 and the wire that goes to the DIC and im not getting anything. Going to check my wiring tomorrow, just to make sure thats not the problem.

The digital DIC will show everything the GTP does except of course boost. So that means fuel, mpg, oil, and something else that's escaping me right now. Along with digital imaging of the car showing the doors opened and what not.

You will need one with a pigtail (which I can supplu :P) and it will require splicing, much like the HUD

I have to say thank you for the writeup! I did mine today and thankfully my 98 GT had the pigtail hidden in the dash, and luckily I found the resource to change the burnt out bulbs with sylvania 24 bulbs.

I'm taking everything apart again tomorrow for the radio so I'll take the chance to upload a few pictures for everybody.

I got a 97 grand prix and I bought a 97digital dic (tire pressure light) and I went to change it today and the plug is totally different , the old one has 18 wires and the new one has 22 so any info on this ? Thanks

I assume on your 97 there should be one more plug under there for the DIC.


I am going to try and hook up my DIC today and I know that i will have the traction light on as I have a GTP DIC that is going in to a GT how do I fix the light.

There wasn't an extra plug in my 97 either. I just followed the link and info from the beginning of this thread/post. It helped a great deal as it listed what wires go where. I had it installed in my car rather quickly. Btw you will need to run an extra wire over to your instrument cluster. What I did is cut off one of the old pins from the old connector from the analog dic, you'll simply slide it back into place on your instrument cluster connector in location C1-F. The wire you need to run from your digital dic is the purple/white wire marked B-10 on the connector from your digital dic harness.

I did this mod 2 wekends ago. I used a 1998 GTP DIC into my 2002 GT. The color of the wires did NOT match but i did run them per instructions. And everything works on it except the display never dims. I did the TCS mod where you solder a wire from point a to point b. My TCS light never comes on. BUT thay maybe a blown bulb as every bulb from the GTP was bad.

Yesterday I tried to install a DIC in my 03 GP GT but I had a few small issues.

1. HUD-B3 LT BLU Switch I could not find. There are two 18 pin connectors behind the guages but not a 16 pin one that that wire should be on. Do I need this?

2. On the old DIC I have one wire still connected it is OD-F the wire looks Gray but I think GM considers it LT BLU. Is this pin used?

3. When connected the trac light is on (GTP DIC in a GT) but nothing else works. Nothing changes when any buttons are pressed. Any sugestions to check.

I think it could be my DLC connection so I will check that tonight (I used to big of a wire so the vampire tap I think did not connect.

If that is not the problem what wires are nessassary and how would I check if they are working? (I know how to test the power and door wires)


Also to fix the trac light from staying on when it needs to be off can I just reverse pin A3 and B2?

Ok I found out the problem was not the wires its the back light on the DIC. Can the light for the screen on the DIC be replaced?

yes the light can be replaced. There are three small bulbs on the back of the DIC (inside the black plastic case) ... Here is how I got my DIC apart to replace the bulbs.. You'll have to remove the face of the dic by gently using a real small thin blade screw driver to press the clips in a little bit,(kind of working your way around the dic) once you pop the face off it you'll see a couple tiny screws that hold the DIC/circuit board inside of the black plastic housing. They are a torx bit screw but since I didn't have my torx bits handy I was able to use a precision screw driver(straight tip) that was tiny enough to fit inside the screw head. Just unscrew them and set them aside. Next you'll have to un-clip the circuit board from the black housing. Once you do that it should slide out easily. There are three bulbs on the back of the circuit board. ( I believe they are # 74 bulbs, someone correct me if I'm wrong) They will just twist out of there, then you can replace them with new ones. Then you basically put everything back together the way it came apart.

Thanks it is working, now I only have to figure out why the trac button has no function the light just stays on?

Once I get the trac button to work then will reversing the pin A3 and B2 pin get the light to function correctly. (GT useing a GTP DIC)

There is a wire that you can solder in to fix the GTP DIC into a GT. I did it and it works great!. I'll try and find the link.

I tried to registering over a year ago and never got a reply. Thank god i found GPF its much nicer. IMO.

I am currently doing this swap. I am also having a little hold up. I have everything wired except the light blue wire that is supposed to go the the hud. I dont have this option or the wiring for it. The diagram states its for ENG/MET. Where do I need to connect this wire if I dont have a HUD?

I have no HUD, and when I was splicing my wires, I just taped off the wire. It is not used. Same goes for if you have a Coupe, you can tape off the rear door wires.

yup but I found it really funny that the wires for the rear doors are actually there ... lol

Ya its just one harness, to save money. Everything is there, but on the Analog DIC, youll notice no bulbs for the rear door icons.

You really know your stuff. Help please. Just got a HUD out of 95 grand prix and want to put it in to my 94. Is that possible. I still have to get the DIC for sure but what year range do I have for the DIC.

Really just want the HUD to show the speed, not worred about all the other stuff that it can do. Less wires to mess with hopefully.
