96 f150 p402 p401 codes

I'm gonna be working on a guys truck that i work with to help him out and I don't want to change any parts that don't need it. The truck is throwing codes for egr insufficient flow and egr flow excess detected which i thought was weird but there was an egr solenoid that was making weird noises every time the truck died so i'm thinking that is the problem. If anyone has an input or experience with this i'd appreciate it thanks.

I wanna take a guess and say that the EGR is vacuum opened and closed right?

It could be just that its full of build up and the pintle is being held closed to reduce the flow, maybe the egr valve itself is bad or its the solenoid.

Start with cleaning it and clearing the codes and go drive it to see if it comes back.

he wants me to change the egr and egr vacuum solenoid so i'm gonna do that. I told him i could probably clean it but he told me to just replace it so i'll do what the man wants he's paying for it. It is vacuum controled. It's actually so bad the truck won't idle at all it just keeps dying unless you hold the gas.

Check the DPFE sensor as it can cause these codes as well and is often overlooked.

I'm gonna look at his truck tom to make sure it has a dpfe sensor because some don't.
