That's usually the first things I do when I get a car, whether it's from a dealer or private owner. Change oil, plugs wires, tranny fluid and filter. Just a good basic tune up. Pull your tranny dipstick and see if the fluid is still redish in color and if it has a burnt smell to it. If it is more brown than red, it's been in there for a while. If it has a browish color, not to scare you, but could cause the tranny to slip when changed. It'll be a 50/50 shot. What happens is when the tranny fluid is in there that long, it wares the bands and other parts out, but the sediments stay in the fluid and kinda keep the parts tight due to the thickness of fluid. When you change the fluid, it cleans all that out and will cause the tranny to slip. It's also a 50/50 shot if the fluid is brown that if you don't change it, the tranny will go. Lets hope the previous owner stayed up on their maintenace and the fluid is still red. Let me know what you find and we'll go from there. Going through this with my wifes GT. Fluid is still red but has a burnt smell. Deffinatley time to change. Just got it a little while ago and trying to get the maintenance up to par.
